WHO IS MICHELE RIDER...

about meMichele began photographing from a very young age. One of her earliest memories is sneaking into her fathers closet to play with his camera. She has been photographing ever since.

Having grown up in Southern California, after high school she attended California State University at Long Beach and received a BS in Outdoor Recreation & Leisure Studies. Upon graduation she moved first to Ireland and then Colorado were she continued to pursue her career in commercial printing. These skills eventually transitioned her into working at a professional photographic lab in Boulder, CO and that is where her passion for professional photography truly took hold.

After several years of working in a photo lab environment Michele decided to bite the bullet and return to school. This time in Santa Barbara, CA were she attended the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography. Founded in 1945, Brooks quickly rose to become known as one of the finest photographic schools in the US as well as internationally.

Having finished her photographic studies in 2005, Michele moved to San Francisco where she has been pursing her true passion: photography!

Michele has a way of capturing a moment when real life is occuring. I hardly ever see her actually taking the photos...

PUBLISHED WORKS

In Septemeber of 2010 Michele's first photo book was published. Women in the Financial District: A Photo Essay is available here. Shot with high speed B&W film and a 1954 Argus C-4, this book is a study of the female form and identity within the masculine structures and paradigms of a modern downtown financial center. Michele captures her subjects in the perfect light and creates stunning images of scenes we experience every day, dragging the mundane into art..
